Fields in Xref not retaining value of source drawing
Is there a setting I can use to allow a field in an xref to retain a value from the original file. I use Autocad mechanical 2020 if that makes a differance.

The fields are part of a title block we use, tied to custom drawing properties that are controlled with external document management software. Right now, when those documents are xref'd they will inherit the current documents properties.
Typically this isn't a big deal for us, but we're trying to adapt to 'modern' (and I use that term lightly) tools, and move our veteran designers towards better solutions, and their number one complaint thus far is that xrefs don't retain title block info the same way just copy/pasting does.

To lock a field from reading another entry that you don't want, it has to be reading a source that is never changing. That's how it works.
Are these custom drawing property entries unique to the XREF(s), or are they generic enough that any file's identical entries are read?
Perhaps they need to be unique instead of generic when used as Xrefs for example.
