"Unreferenced" does not mean that the path is incorrect, it meanst this XRef is not used within your drawing.

Sample: you start command XRef and place an external DWG to your modelspace (looks like a block then), next step you delete this object from modelspace. Now AutoCAD is in the situation that it knows there is a pointer to the external DWG-file, but it is not used any more in the drawing (as you deleted the insertion) ... that is "unreferenced".

 

In that case you can right click the file in the XRef-manager ==> Detach.
