Hi,

You can set it up as per your preference. You can right-click on the palettes and it will give you options to auto-hide the palettes and dock them. Read more from here "click here"

I like to have my properties palette docked to the left without autohide and layer manager and tool palette docked to the right and auto-hidden and this is my preference and you can set it as per yours. Once set you can lock the UI using "LOCKUI" so that you won't be able to move the palettes or resize them or close them(but you can close the properties palette and Tool palette still by using ctrl+1 and ctrl+3 with locked UI)
