AutoCAD 2019 displays blank/white screen on load
Problem
AutoCAD 2019 displays blank/white screen on startup, unable to interact with the program and must terminate acad.exe from Task Manager
Background
Computer is in a secure environment that has no connection to the internet, but files/updates can be transferred to it as needed.
OS is Win7 x64 with SP1, UAC disabled, .NET v4.8, latest video drivers taken from the Certified Graphics drivers on Autodesk (NVIDIA Quadro K2200 385.90).
All installs were from a local Administrator account. AutoCAD2018 was already installed/activated and successfully runs. AutoCAD 2019 was then installed and activated. It was upgraded to 2019.0.1 then 2019.1.0, successfully running after each update. After updating to 2019.1.1, the white screen problem started, and updating to 2019.1.2 did not help. Installing the 2019.1.2 Combo Security Hotfix caused AutoCAD2019 to appcrash on startup (program: acad.exe and module: C:\Windows\system32\KERNELBASE.dll).
Even tried installing AutoCAD 2020 but that also has the same white screen issue.
Attempted Solutions
- Repaired AutoCAD install(s) from Add/Remove Programs
- Reset AutoCAD settings from “Reset Settings to Default” app
- Added /nohardware flag to startup
- Uninstalled video driver (just for testing, later reinstalled)
- Reinstalled 2018/2019 after clearing %TEMP% folder each time
None of those attempts above had any impact on the issue. At a loss right now, could there be a Windows Update that would help (would need KB #)?

Hi,
>> Computer is in a secure environment that has no connection to the internet
Are you running on a network license?
Is there a difference if you disable/disconnect your computer from network, then reboot and start AutoCAD?

Thank you for your replies. I was not able to test until recently, so sorry for the delay.

I tried running from the local Administrator, domain account without a network cable plugged in, with/without Run as Administrator, and with/without the /nohardware flag (just to cover as much ground as I could), all of those combinations resulted in the same issue for AutoCAD2019.1.2.
One thing I noticed (after a lot of back-and-forth) was that compared to AutoCAD2018 and 2019.1.0, the splash screen for 2019.1.2 never displays the “Preparing working environment … RIBBON” message. In its place, it hangs on the last “loading…” for much longer before displaying the white page as shown in the screenshot. Do not know if that means something to anyone.
>> Are you running on a network license?
No. It is a Stand-alone: Commercial license (multiple seats).

You will need access to the Internet to verify the license.
This article tells you which URLs/protocols need to be whitelisted for the program to connect to Autodesk licensing servers.

I did a fresh install of the OS to clean up any potential leftovers from the various attempts. I forgot to mention earlier that the OS is Win7 Professional. I did not upgrade manually to .NET 4.8 this time, letting the AutoCAD installs do their own .NET installation.
After installing AutoCAD 2018, I installed the License Update from your link before installing AutoCAD 2019 because of the advisement in the link.
I did not see a change in version for the program listing for Autodesk License Service (x64) – 5.1.4. After the 2019 install there was a second entry for the License Service (7.1.4).
Unfortunately, the same problem occurred after installing the 2019.1.2 update (blank/white screen). I tried re-running the License Update just to see, but it silently exited.
Another thing to note is the original Product Version listed for AutoCAD 2019 is 46, and the 2019.1.0 update gets me up to 103, so some version after that the issue occurs.

I looked at the links you provided, but they do not apply in this case. The License is Permanent-Perpetual and I am able to activate 2019 and have the program running with updates up to 2019.1. The problem occurs when updating to version 2019.1.1 or 2019.1.2. There is no problem with the activation window or splash screen. In fact, I had to activate 2019 again after the recent OS reinstall, and as long as I activated 2019 before updating the program everything works fine. It is only after the AutoCAD program initially “loads” that the main screen is blank and unresponsive (as shown in the original post’s screenshot).

@Anonymous
Hello.
In your initial post you asked about Windows updates. Have a look at this document on the Autodesk Knowledge Network on system requirements for AutoCAD 2019 and Windows 7. It does mention a specific Windows update. Maybe you could check to see if you have this installed.
I’ve also located this article, which mentions a similar problem occurring during activation of the product. Did your issue begin when activating or shortly after, and are you using Internet Explorer 10?
Good luck!

Hi guys,
Looks like this one is tough, but great ideas so far ! Some of them make me think of a few additional things to do.
QUICK tests.
1) Create a fresh windows user account with admin rights, and login into this fresh account and start AutoCAD from there... if doesn't help go back to your regular account.
2) Install DirectX 11 (you can check version with "dxdiag" from your windows command line) and test.
D3d is included inside DirectX and OpenGL comes with your graphic card driver.
3) I would also give a look at
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Desktop-App-freezes-and-...
See the section "If using Windows 7: Switch graphic libraries used by the Licensing/Login Component:".
Try setting those windows variables. I am not exactly sure this TS is related or not,
but it won't arm to try it quick and if it doesn't help, revert back.
If the above quick tests did not help, here is my 2 cents.
Reading through the many suggestions, and now that we can eliminate many issues, I would emphasis on this last one from Chris regarding the requirements.
Make Sure Microsoft KB4019990 is correctly installed.
If not it may prevent .NET framework to install correctly because of a missing D3D component, which in turn may prevent AutoCAD to work (may be even install) correctly.
Why AutoCAD 2019.0 would work fine and not 2019.1.1... well... ask the experts;) lol)
Try this.
1) Make sure Win7 Pro SP1 64 is up to date with KB4019990 correctly installed
2) Uninstall/reinstall .NET framework 4.7.2 (keep the installation log files) from Microsoft web site
3) Do a clean install of AutoCAD 2019 (keep the installation log files)
(if you need detailed steps for the above operations let us know)
Hope this helps...
If not, please send in the log files may be some experts here can find what's going wrong.
Cheers, Nicolas
