I've only had this happen when installing a newer version of Infraworks.

@VictorGomez3139 No only for Infraworks as @rl_jackson has said - I still have Civil 2021, 2023, 2024 & 2025 on my PC.

@rl_jackson Yes this behavious is very irritating - I don't know why there can't be a prompt asking if you want to delete the old and install the new and then doing the removal programmatically.

Quick Question for ALL AutoDesk product users...
How many of you have been prompted to remove previous versions of your software upon installation of a newer version ??

what software are you talking about?

only certain ones do like Vault Server, Infraworks which you can only have  one version of these installed

or are you wanting this across the entire portfolio?

This was a general question for ALL software, but I personally have the Product Design Suite, which is a package of Multiple AutoDesk software units.  I have never been prompted to uninstall my previous software versions and typically did not in order to have the original software available for use while I spent time to test the newer versions, setting them up with second-party software that I use.  The process typically took anywhere from 2-3 weeks, up to 2-3 months, depending upon my work load.  I am a small business and typically handle all of my computers and software.  I have never known this to be an issue, for AutoDesk, having done it this way for many, many years…

@VictorGomez3139- doubtful you would ever be prompted (on screen) to do Uninstalls, but rest assured, it's in the EULA and/or the associated T&C.

This is actually going to depend on your license for Autodesk Software:

  • Perpetual License
    • For new versions, you will at this point have to buy an entirely new license, which will be a subscription license. In this case, you would not need to uninstall the older versions that are on perpetual licenses.
  • Upgrades to Perpetual Licenses
    • This one is trickier and doesn't apply to current versions of course, but if you previously paid for upgrades, either through maintenance or one time upgrades of perpetual licenses, then you were allowed to keep a certain number of previous releases and that varied. Prior to the policy change, it could be as many previous releases as you wanted.
  • Subscription (Current Licenses)

Some of Autodesk's newer software is enforcing this by requiring you to uninstall older versions than your license allows before installing and others will just stop working if your license doesn't allow its use.

Please note that you can in some cases get special permission from Autodesk to use older versions and your licenses would be updated to reflect that permission, but that is usually temporary and under unique circumstances. And use lessons learned here, do not run older versions than you are allowed to do unless you have that permission.

Never. But we only keep one or two older versions.

Prompted by who or what? Never seen such prompt.

Edit: we use AEC Collection. Most programs we use (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, ReCap, 3DS Max) can be used side by side. Only exception is ReCap - it installs the latest version over the older version without questions or warnings.

I wish Infraworks did this as I have to send two elevated permission requests to our IT dept to allow me to delete old IW and then install the new version

I believe I did this switch. Please help me confirm. The deal was no more 5% max increase in 2 years for a 7 year period, right? I received the offer in an email, however, I cannot find it. Is there someplace I could find a record of this offer on the internet? I am trying to access how much time I have left on the offer. My seller "novedge" has not been able to tell me nor autodesk.

This is the subline of my transaction from the invoice :
