To me, the way Autodesk licensing works for the "hobby user" is a shame compared to what used to be done. 

Don't know what used to be done. One thing stuck in my mind after reading John Walkers history about the birth of Autodesk: a bunch of guys wanting to make money. And that's what Autodesk did an still does. Esoteric things like goodwill don't make money, so nah, we don't do that. Everything to make the stakeholder happy....
