CAD-nerd layer question

Just out of curiosity,  what layers do you use for external references and viewports?

Thanks.

You can use any layer you want: either dedicated layers you create on your own called something like XREF and VIEWPORTS, or any one of your choosing.

Stick with your layer naming convention standards.

If you don't have any, time to look into setting up some.

But if you do & you typically use 3 character modifiers for other objects then it could be:

...-xrf-... = xrefs

...-vpr-... = vports

For 4 character modifiers then:

...-xref-... = xrefs

...-vprt-... = vports

Also, standardize if the letters should be all upper case, all lowercase and etc...

But if you don't ever plan on turning off or freezing the layers the xrefs or vports are placed then you can always leave them on the default Layer 0...though not recommended.
