Hi Megan,
The lineweights you see on the screen in the drawing area are just a rough preview and are still dependent on the display resolution. That is why you do not see the difference in the gradations of the lineweights, which have a similar thickness, and the lineweights are displayed in jumps.
This has always been the case and does not depend on the version of AutoCAD.
You can see the real lineweights only on hardcopy (depends on printer/plotter physical resolution) or in PDF output (Preview button in Print window).
