Obviously, I am new to AutoCAD problems. AutoCAD seems to have many problems.  If I am not giving you the right information in the form you want, you just need to let me know what you need. I am doing the best I can. This is what happened. 

1) Opened a drawing and attached an xref.

2) I added a drawing layer and started to use the xref as a guide.

3) Tried to add a hatch for areas with brick. Once I did that every time I put my cursor over the drawing the whole drawing was hatched. I had to press escape to get out of it. I finally deleted the hatch but it didn't fix the problem. Every time I hover my cursor over the drawing the hatch shows up. I cannot use trim or extend very well because the drawing acts like there is a small invisible hatch. I guess it is still looking for closed boundaries and I cannot get it to stop.

4) I refreshed the drawing and that didn't help.
