Have you tried to turn off (set to 0) these:
SHOWALLUSEDLAYERSGROUP
SHOWEMPTYGROUPS
SHOWUNRECONCILEDLAYERSGROUP
SHOWVPOVERRIDESGROUP
SHOWXREFGROUPS
System Variables?
