Mac: Delete dynamic layer group rule

As the title says, in autocad mac, there is no way to delete or remove existing rules of automatic layer grouping.

The only workaround i've found is to copy all the drawing and paste it in a new file...

If someone knows the real way, please share, thanks!

I'm using Autocad Mac 2019.0.1 product version P.47.M.5

Hi,

No, this action just delete the group but the rule still applies. I would like to remove the rule to disable this automatic behavior.

Hi @toofeak ,

Have you tried to turn off (set to 0) these:

SHOWALLUSEDLAYERSGROUP

SHOWEMPTYGROUPS

SHOWUNRECONCILEDLAYERSGROUP

SHOWVPOVERRIDESGROUP

SHOWXREFGROUPS

System Variables?

@toofeak ,

Another way to disable automatic layer grouping is to uncheck these:

Hi @maxim_k , thanks for the answer but the commands you propose to disable and uncheck the display settings just hide the undesired folders. I rather disable the behavior because it still applies in the background. Maybe it's just a mac problem, I don't know. For now the copy paste in a new file works fine.

Anyway, it's not a big deal, I just wanted to know if i was the only one with this problem. Maybe it's something to share to the developers to fix for future versions.

Bye

Why do you think it is a problem?

Does this functionality (Dynamic Layer grouping) affect your work in the AutoCAD in any way?

I say it's a problem because in the oficial support and learning page of Dynamic Layer group, it says it can be removed, but i can't find it. (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-for-mac/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018/E...)

It bother me because it make new groups and change my layers order when i create new layers, so i get lost in the layers list and it slow me down. Because it's and automatic order, it duplicates the same layer in lots of differents folders and make my layers list very long. This is in a file of a city map that i found on internet and it already have a massive list of layers because it have a massive list of automatic grouping rules and come from the binding of severals xrefs. I wanted to clean it up, that's why i was looking for it. I share you the file if you're curious about.

Hi @toofeak ,

Indeed, any Dynamic Layer group can be deleted. The Help topic is correct.

Try create new Dynamic Layer group in the drawing you shared:

Now link at the Layers palette:

Another thing is the automatic layer group. It cannot be deleted because it is created automatically. But you can easily turn off its display in the list of layers (see my post above).

>>>>>It bother me because it make new groups and change my layers order when i create new layers

As I wrote before - you can turn off Automatic Layer Groups.

>>>>>This is in a file of a city map that i found on internet and it already have a massive list of layers because it have a massive list of automatic grouping rules and come from the binding of severals xrefs.

They are not Automatic Layer Groups - they were created during drawing lifecycle by users. Try it - You can remove any of these groups in your drawing.

If you need Layer Groups, but don't want to see them in the Layers Palette - you can turn off them in the Palette:

If you don't need them - delete them:

- turn on "Show Groups on the bottom" to find first group easily

- select the first group

- scroll to the end of the layers list and select the last item in it

- all groups will be selected

- right-click on the last group and select "delete group" - all groups will be deleted.
