@mzarchs I too am unable to reproduce your selection issue (left to right or right to left selection windows).
and all of your blocks text like S and SD/SO are visible.

Are you just having a problem seeing your chosen layer colors?
Do you have locked or frozen layers that are not present in the sample DWG file you posted? Your blocks' contents are spread out over two-three different layers for example.
