Century Gothic Italic plots as regular font
I am having an issue since switching from Windows to Mac a month ago. Our standard font for drawings is Century Gothic Italic. This shows up fine within AutoCAD, but when plotted, the italic is removed. All of the font types have been installed. I can't figure out why this is happening. Any recommendations?
Using AutoCAD LT 2021 for MAC. Everything is up to date.
Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous,
Please specify your macOS version.
I cannot reproduce your issue on my side (macOS Catalina 10.15.7 + AutoCAD 2021 for Mac)
Where do you have Century Gothic font on your Mac? Do you see it in FontBook app?
Or you installed it inside AutoCAD application folder?
What version of Century Gothic font do you use? If it is installed in FontBook app, you can check font version on Info page of that font.

Hello Maxim,
I am running macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 now, but the issue was also present while running the last version of Catalina.
The font is installed within the Fontbook app, here is the info:
Version: Version 2.35
Location: /Users/XXX/Library/Fonts/GOTHICI.TTF
Unique name: Century Gothic Italic : 1991
Manufacturer: Monotype Typography, Inc.
Designer: Monotype Type Drawing Office
The font may also be installed within AutoCAD folder, but I don't recall how to check that. Still getting used to the OS environment.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Update: The font is also installed in AutoCAD, see screen shot.
The problem really seems to be with plotting to PDF, as WITHIN AutoCAD, all the fonts are fine, and plotting directly to paper is also fine, but once plotted as PDF, the italic version is replaced by the standard (see second screen shot). This happens if I use the DWG to PDF.pc3 or any of the AutoCAD PDF.pc3 options.
This suggests to me an issue between Adobe Acrobat and AutoCAD. If I make a pdf with a program like Word, I can plot the italic version just fine. Is this perhaps a plot style issue?

You can also find out this info in your PDF viewer, look at how it is handling fonts.

>>>>>I am running macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 now
This explains everything.
Looks like there is a bug with build-in AutoCAD to PDF.pc3 printers introduced with new macOS Big Sur - text in Italic and Bold doesn't output correctly when you save to PDF. It always sows as Normal in PDF. This bug is not specific to font.

I think that the reason for this issue on Catalina could be that you placed the font in two places: Font Book and inside AutoCAD application folder. You need to remove this font from AutoCAD application folder and leave it in Font Book.
You may also try to save to PDF with Preview button in Print window using one of macOS System printers, but not "AutoCAD to PDF.pc3" printer.

Hi Maxim,
Your point #1 seems to be the issue...all the built-in DWG to PDF drivers are messing up the fonts. If I choose an actual printer and then click preview, AutoCAD generates a PDF to preview which now has Italic and Bold fonts again. So this is a work around, but clunky.
Thanks for the help. If anyone can recommend a 3rd party PDF printer driver for macOS that might fix this issue, please recommend it here.

Hello pendean,
1. "How is your PDF creating driver set to handle fonts? It appears to be set to ignore them." - How does one examine these settings?
2. "You can also find out this info in your PDF viewer, look at how it is handling fonts." - Same question, where would I look within Acrobat to see how it handles fonts?
