Cannot right click to open an xref

We just upgraded our server. Now I cannot open an xref by right click. Is there anyway to fix it?

Thanks,

Lin

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you provide more details about your problem?
- macOS version,
- AutoCAD version,
- which server are you using?
- what protocol you are using to connect to the server?

>>>>>I cannot open an xref by right click
Why?
- you don't see "Open Xref" item in right-click context menu,
- you see it, but when you select it nothing happens,
- you see it, but when you select it AutoCAD respond with some alert at the command prompt
Are you able to open Xref in another way - with a button on Xref Visor?
Are you able to open external referenced drawing with menu File -> Open?
......

Hi Maxim,

Thank you for your reply.
Here are more details for my question : Cannot right click to open an xref

-macOS version: 10.13.6
- AutoCAD version, AUTOCAD 2018 LT/AUTOCAD 2018 (We have both version)
- which server are you using? We just upgraded our server from Apple server to NAS server.
- what protocol you are using to connect to the server? Not sure

When i right click on the Xref, I see the menu to open xref, but when I select it nothing happens.
Are you able to open Xref in another way - with a button on Xref Visor? Yes, we could open it in reference manager by right click and open file.
Are you able to open external referenced drawing with menu File -> Open? Yes

By the way,
Our office just upgraded our old apple server to NAS server last week. All the xref link are missing. And we need to relink everything. Do you know any way to fix that? Could it be fixed?

Thank you very much,

Could the two problems be related: missing XREFs also means AutoCAD deos not know where to go to find and open your files?

Yes, you do need to relink all references if you did not make the effort to maintain all full address paths when changing files locations as seen from each user's computer.

Thank you for your reply.

But after we relink all our xref. Everything works fine but we can not right click on the xref and open it anymore. We have to go to reference manager and open the xref file there.

Is there anything we could do to  fix that?

Best,

Lin

Have you installed all updates to AutoCAD 2018?
Including the last one, which you can find here:

Looks like it is a bug in AC 2018 for Mac.
I just tried to reproduce the issue on my side (external referenced DWG on NAS) and indeed - XOPEN command (which starts when you select Open Xref from context menu) doesn't work.
At the same time in 2019 version this Xref opens in this drawing without problems.

@Anonymous

I went further with researching this issue and have found that if my NAS server is connected using AFP protocol:

in my case - in Finder, menu Go->Connect to server -> afp://PersonalCloud.local

AC 2018 cannot open Xref with XOPEN command ("Open Xref" from context menu).

But if I connect my NAS using SMB protocol:

in my case - in Finder, menu Go->Connect to server -> smb://PersonalCloud.local

XOPEN starts to work correctly in 2018 version.
