Layer States and CTB files - how to match them AutoCADD for macA

I am setting up a CTB line weights file from scratch for a student project. I was originally taught to only use CTB files when exporting my drawings. However, it makes it difficult to draw in model space because I can't see the line weights. Is there a method to import the lines weights and types into the layers properties palette in model space.

I hope this question makes sense. I attached two screen shots.

Or will I need to manually enter line weight and types into both the CTB file and the layers palette? I hope not... !

I'm not aware of such method.

You can use the trick - work in Model space using viewport in Layout. To be able to see lineweights assigned in CTB you need to check "Display plot styles" option in Page Setup for the layout where you will work inside viewport.

Hi Maxim!

This is probably such a dumb question - but I'm going to ask anyway. I'm sure it will help others too. Is there no way to see line weights at all in model space (MacCAD) ?

If lineweights assigned to Layers in the Layers palette or by object in Properties palette - you can see them in Model space - just use Show lineweight button on the Status Bar to toggle lineweight visibility.

so... if I want to see the same line weights in both model and paperspace for a drawing, I'd need to manually set it up both on ctb file and in layers palette. I understand. I was just hoping for a shortcut or download to enter it once.

CTB settings actually override settings for object properties in the Layers palette and in the Properties palette when you print, that is why you can see them only in the Layout "by design". And if you have lineweight settings only in CTB file, you need to transfer them manually to Layers palette.

...I understand... but it leads me to a different question. For MacCad is it best to set up line weights with color and use the same color for different objects or to use pen styles? One of the reason in classes I used color for objects was because it was easier to transfer it to illustrator to change colors/line weights for illustrations and diagrams.

What would be best practices for setting up CTB files?

I only use monochrome.CTB plot style in order to get monochrome output. I set lineweights in Layer (or object) properties, I also use different colors for Layers. The colors in drawings plots always in black as I use monochrome.ctb plot style table, at the same time I can see visual difference even without enabling "Show line weights" option. Plus I can select objects by color after importing them to AI (as you).
