It would be nice to have the current layer shown in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
I like how the Layers and Property tabs autohide, but then I'm always looking to see what Layer I'm working in.

It is a great idea! I do let my palettes autohide and then if I need to check my current layer I just temporarily expand them.
