Was your old place using MAC versions of AutoCAD? I assume not, right?
As a general rule in an office with more than one drafter, the CAD manager would place files that are never to be overwritten in a folder on the server with no access to edit or replace for anyone other than themselves. That might be a good thing to do at your new office, chat with your IT folks so they can set up that group policy.
