Help getting started

Hi all,

I've been advised to learn AutoCAD LT.

I am new to CAD.

I need some help getting started.

Where can I go to learn the very basics about how this application functions?

I've watched all of the introductory videos, and they have not answered my questions.

Thank you for any assistance.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi

There is no special tutorials (books) about AutoCAD LT for Mac, but you can start, for example, here:

https://www.lynda.com/AutoCAD-Mac-tutorials/AutoCAD-Mac-2018-Essential-Training/645019-2.html

https://www.lynda.com/AutoCAD-Mac-tutorials/Up-Running-AutoCAD-Mac/144561-2.html?srchtrk=index%3a1%0...

Just skip sections related to the full AutoCAD version: in particular those related to 3D.

Since you seem to be posting all over the place in all the forums, are you actually using a Mac or Windows on your computer?

Being a Newbie, first I posted in the AutoCAD forum.
Then I was able to find an AutoCAD LT forum, so I posted there too.
So 2 = "posting all over the place in all the forums"? Hmmm.

And I am using a new iMac running OSX 10.13.2 with AutoCAD LT 2017

I just want to draw simple rectangles, but be able to change the lengths
and widths via a keyboard number input.
Draw an arbitrary rectangle, then go back and set it to be 2 units by 4
units?
Is this possible?

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Stephen,

You cannot do this with rectangle created with RECTANG command, because it is just a closed polyline and not an "intelligent" object, but you can try use dynamic block feature to accomplish this goal:

I attached drawing with such kind of block.

You can change rectangle dimensions in Custom section of the Properties palette:
