ACAD LT 2018 For Mac - Ortho With Shift Key Problem

Hi all, I rarely post on here as I can usually find a solution, however this time I can't...

I've just installed LT 2018 for Mac and can no longer use the "shift" key whilst copying/moving etc to constrain to ortho or free movement.

If I use the shift key, the object disappears and I am prompted to set ortho mode which is annoying - I mainly use ortho on and just hit the shift key when I want to move something freely.

This operation also adds a little circle with a triangle inside next to the cursor Emoticono frustrado

Would this be a preference/setting I've overlooked or is it a glitch ?

Many thanks

Hi Ian,

I have full AutoCAD 2018 and cannot reproduce the issue you described.
If ORTHO is on on my side and I hold Shift key for some time during editing/drawing operations it allows me to turn ORTHO of temporary until I release Shift key.
At the command prompt I also see "Enter new value for ORTHOMODE <1>" but then ORTHO turns off automatically and the current command resume.

Hi Maxim

Thanks for the reply........ that's weird

I get the same message in the command prompt and also at the cursor.

I can hit enter and accept the ORTHOMODE command mid operation, but that permanently toggles ortho on/off

I've tried opening a new drawing to no avail and had a look through keyboard settings on my mac Emoticono loco

Have you tried to relaunch AutoCAD? Restart your Mac?
With Shift key pressed AutoCAD should automatically change value of JRTHOMODE sys var.

You can also try to Reset AutoCAD, but then you will loose all customizations (if you have any).

Well......

I've reset ACAD - no change

I've deleted and reinstalled ACAD - no change

I've downloaded it again and reinstalled - no change

For each of the above I did not migrate my settings and files to see if that was the cause

Is no-one else using ACAD LT for Mac having this issue please ?

Can you post screencast of what happens when you are trying to use Shift to toggle ORTHO mode?

Hi Maxim, I had to research how to do that haha

The attached shows a simple move, when I press and hold the shift button mid command, that's when the "enter new value for ORTHO" prompt occurs

I then right clicked to accept the mode change and moved in ortho

If you watch the ortho button bottom right, it toggles from off to on, which is correct - however when the command is complete it should return to "off" but it doesn't

In LT 2017 the button goes on and off according to whether shift is pressed, and there is no requirement for a prompt acceptance mid-command

Hope this explains

Can you post screenshot of the "Keyboard" pane of the macOS System Preferences opened in Keyboard tab?

Screenshot attached

Changing the "Use F1, F2 etc" setting has no effect on the problem

"cmd + L" works mid command but toggles on/off permanently, as does F8 when "Use F1, F2 etc" is ticked

If it is bluetooth Apple keyboard, can you check with some other keyboard (wired)?

On my side I don't need to confirm ORTHO toggle when I use Shift override mode, it toggles in about a second after I start to hold down Shift key and stays in ORTHO mode until I release Shift key. And this is normal behavior. On your side, as I understand it doesn't toggle automatically while you hold Shift key (BTW - have you tried to hold it for longer time and wait for toggle moment?)

Downloading AutoCAD 2018 LT now in order to check on my side.

Yes, that's correct

In 2017 there was no delay at all, not even a second

I've tried holding the shift down for longer (>2min) and nothing

Thanks for all your assistance thus far, at least my left hand little finger's RSI is showing signs of improvement :cara_que_ríe_con_la_boca_abierta_y_los_ojos_sonrientes:

I installed 2018 version of AC LT and I'm able to reproduce the issue. Definitely it is a BUG in LT version.
