AutoCAD 2017 runs great in macOS Sierra. If you are also considering an OS upgrade to High Sierra, you will need to use AutoCAD 2017.2 which can be found in this post.
You will see in that post that there are also links to AutoCAD LT for Mac. That version is a more-limited version of AutoCAD. It only allows editing of 2D geometry. If you qualify for the free student license, I encourage you to try the full version of AutoCAD which includes more features including 3D.
