CAD + 13-inch MacBook Pro

Hey ya'll,

Anyone using the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with AutoCAD?

I'm in the market for a new laptop and am looking at the 13 inch MacBook Pro. It's has an i5 dual core processor and 8 GB of RAM, but it does not have a dedicated graphics card (comes standard with the Intel Iris Plus 640).

I'm an architect/designer and I'd like to use the machine to work on some sizable dwgs and drawing sets with ease - no chugging, delays etc etc.

Would love any insight from users working in cad on the 13-inch pro!!

Thanks so much.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Carolyn,

I have no problems with AutoCAD on MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2015) i7, 16 Gb RAM, Intel Iris Graphics 6100. It supports even 4K external display (DELL UP2414Q) at 60 Hz refresh rate on macOS Sierra.

So I think there will be no problems with integrated Iris Plus 640.
I'd only suggest you to consider more RAM - 16 Gb, and, of course, i7 will be better.

If you're using AutoCAD for Mac then the display will be ok albeit squeaky small with a 4K screen.

If you're using windows for Mac via Parallels then the graphics is a nightmare to display correctly with some fonts being illegibly small and the command line far to large and the only option being to reduce the resolution thus negating the whole point of a 4K screen.
