Each time I use the <SAVE> command a new .dwg file is created with the same filename but with a numerical extension added. So if I work for 3 hours and hit <SAVE> 10 times, I get 10 different versions of the drawing. How can I disable this?

What is your WIndows OS?
What is your LT version?
Is this a sudden new problem? If yes, what's new with your setup. If not, glad you decided to try and fix it

I'm using a Mac. OS Sierra 10.12.5
It's been happening for about 3 months now, and is certainly linked to my upgrade to Sierra. But I still don't know how to fix it.

Where are you saving your files to? if to the iCloud Drive folder then you need to change the place where you put your AutoCAD drawings.
There is knowing issue with iCloud and AutoCAD for Mac - it creates duplicates each time when you use QSAVE command when drawings are inside iCloud sync folder.
FYI this is not the MAC forum, it is over there https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac/ct-p/3011

I should have known it was a Cloud issue. So far every problem I've had is cloud-based. Grr.
But thanks for explaining it! I just have to make sure I'm saving to my desktop and not the Cloud?

Hi Martha,
Also be sure to uncheck this option in iCloud pane of macOS System Preferences:

This is the warning that pops up when I uncheck the box. I'm going to lose documents and files? Sorry - this is probably an easy issue and I'm making it more complicated.

Unfortunately there is only one way to disable iCloud sync for Documents and Desktop folders - via System Preferences. And there was a lot of complaints about this from Mac users who decided to stop sync their Doc and desktop folders.
Fortunately there are workarounds:
- you can temporary move all your documents from Desktop and Documents folders to some different place on your local drive before turning off iCloud sync (for example - create some folder inside your Home folder and then create two folders for your Desktop and Documents folders inside this folder, then move all stuff there). After you turn off ICloud Sync, move your documents back in place.
- or you can use these recommendations:

Apparently the problem is solved and it's great if in the future there will be a need to find duplicate files, in order to remove or move them into another folder, I can advise the excellent service https://www.cleverfiles.com/find-duplicates-mac.html it is compatible with Mac Os and also has step-by-step instruction, everything is easy and affordable, I hope it comes in handy, good luck.

I've been having the exact same problem with this and have spoken to both Apple and Autocad.
Essentially it seems to be an issue with Autocad software, which has been logged, so hopefully will get fixed.....
The work around, suggested by autocad is to turn off the backup files using the ISAVEBAK command, and setting this to 0 (zero).
Not ideal, as you loose the security of the back up file, but it does seem to solve the problem, and autosaves still work as normal.
