Layer freeze

Hi! I'm new to Mac ACAD having used it for many years on windows. Currently using 2017 which is really good.

There are a couple of peculiarities and backward ways which I can generally get around.....however the most frustrating is the layer freeze. I'm hoping there is an easy solution someone knows about.

On windows one can freeze individual layers in model space on xrefs with no issue. On the Mac the tool just won't select individual layers but turns the entire xref off (the layer it's imported on).

It's more bizarre in paper space. For some reason one can't turn off individual layers (xref or non xref) in viewports with the layer freeze tool, it just turns the layer off globally. I can scroll through the layer dialogue to achieve this but it's tedious!

Possibly I'm just missing something here, Any help would be amazing and save my sanity!

Cheers

in LAYFRZ command on the MAC did you change it's settings to have it do what you want? In both model and viewports, HELP should explain it for you or click here and scroll down to the 'settings' section then the 'viewports' section https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-for-mac/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/E...

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi John,

As Dean mentioned in his reply, you need to change settings in LAYFRZ command.

OOTB "Block selection" is set to "None" option and if a block or an xref is selected, it freezes the layer containing that block or xref.

You need to change "Block selection" to "Entity" option in order to be able to freeze the layers of selected objects even if they are nested in an xref or a block.

Here is how it works in the command prompt:

Command: _LAYFRZ
Current settings: Viewports=Off, Block nesting level=None
Select an object on the layer to be frozen or [Settings/Undo] S
Enter setting type for [Viewports/Block selection] B
Enter Block Selection nesting level [Block/Entity/None] <None>: E
Select an object on the layer to be frozen or [Settings/Undo] XXXX
Layer "XXXX" has been frozen.
Select an object on the layer to be frozen or [Settings/Undo]
Command:

With the same way you can adjust settings for Viewports:

In paper space viewport use [Freeze/Vpfreeze] <Vpfreeze>: Enter F to freeze objects in all viewports or V to freeze an object in the current viewport only
