Upgrading from Autocad LT 2004 on windows to Autocad LT 2016 on Mac
Hi,
I am currently using Autocad LT 2004 on a windows computer. I have just upgraded to a Mac computer and I have downloaded the 2016 auto cad LT for mac 30 day free trail. My old drawing files from the windows computer will only open as 'read only' files and I can not save any work I have done. Is this just a limitation of the free trial version? Need to know if my old files will work on my mac with Autocad LT 2016 or 2017 before I purchase the full version?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Justin,
Thank you, I have tried saving it as a new drawing however it will not let me save it as it says "One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created"?? when clicking properties it will not let me unlocked the file or change it t read write.
Regards,
Liam

How did you transfer the files over?
Where are the files located?
read-only is an OS tag, either Windows or MacOS did it, and for a reason. Nothing AutoCAD for Windows nor AutoCAD for MAC can do much about it: so give us more info please.

Hi @Anonymous,
I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!
If you select one of the files in your Mac Finder and rt-click to Get Info, does it show up as Read-only? Are the files stored on a flash drive or something else as opposed to being stored on the local hard drive?
Which MacOS are you running? Can you share one or two of your files so I can test on my Mac?

Aside "read-only" problem.
Have you tried to repair errors in the drawing with AUDIT command?
Also you can find some useful information here:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Error-...
The article is about PC version, but regarding to drawing itself it could be applied to AutoCAD for Mac.
Please verify also that you have write permissions for the folder where you are trying to SAVEAS the file.

That is very typical for DWG files that have data from vertical products like Map3D or Civil3D. Note that this isn't limited to drawing objects (proxy objects for surfaces and so on) but also applies to data stored at the drawing level. You may need to use -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD command to remove these.
If you are going to fly by the seat of your pants, expect friction burns.
