Linetype will not stay as desired under layers

Product is AutoCAD 2016 for Mac.

Working with three layers here. Layer 1 must have a continuous linetype, layer 2 center, and layer 3 is hidden. I was easily able to configure my layers to the proper settings (color, line weight/type, ect.) I began by drawing my continuous lines for layer 1; when I tried to draw my center lines for layer 2, they came out as continuous lines (the color and weight were correct though.)

I adjusted the linetype on the properties inspector to Center, and when I did, It changed the linetypes for layers 1 and 3 also to Center. Note that the linetype is only changing in the "current properties" tab, and not the "layers properties" tab.

So I was forced to change the linetype under the "current properties" each time I drew in a different Layer.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,
You need to set current Linetype property in the Properties palette to "ByLayer", then Linetype property will be taken from Layer for newly created objects.

For the objects you already created: you need to select them and set their Linetype property to "ByLayer" in the Properties palette in order to avoid confusion in the future.
