Unable to use inquiry tool

I am using autocad 2015 for Mac. I have been able to inquiry distance until today when a ? shows up in the cross hairs of the inquiry tool. How do I get rid of the ? and begin using the tool again?

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

Do you see "?" near crosshairs every time?
If yes, Have you tried to restart AutoCAD - Quit it and launch again?

What command are you using to measure distance - DIST or MEASURE?

I have quit AutoCAD and started it up again. At this time I always see the ? in the top right quadrant of the cross hairs when I use inquiry, distance from the tools palette drop down menu.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

This is normal - when you are inside MEASURE command with Distance option the question mark appears at crosshairs. When you use menu Tools -> Inquiry -> Distance menu you actually call MEASUREMENT command with Distance option. After you pick two points you can see the results of the measurement at the command window, than AutoCAD asks you to measure another distance.
In order to quit command and "clear" the question mark you need to hit Esc key on the keyboard.

The problem is that no results are showing up in the command window. After I select my first & second points, the command window asks me to enter an option—see attached image. When I add "D" in the command window it asks me to enter the first point, second point, and the process begins again with no measurement ever being revealed.

It's strange that I've not seen the ? previously and that I've successfully completed inquiries prior to seeing the ?. I'm wondering if I unknowingly turned something on or off or...who knows.

I'm new to the Mac version, but I'm fairly familiar with AutoCAD in windows.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

In order to be able to see measurement results at the command prompt you need to expand it with the small button with arrow on the right side of the command window.
In order to be able to see the results in the drawing area you need to turn on Dynamic input with the button on the Status Bar.

The tool that's being used is Tools -> Inquiry -> Distance (which appears to invoke MEASUREGEOM).

When I use it in ACAD Mac 2015 and 2016 it shows a crosshair with a ? next to it. It does still work though as I can click two points and it will advise the distance between them. Attached are a few screenshots of what mine looks like.

A couple of things I've noticed with how it works

- In Inquiry Result.png, it pops up the result in a little window next to the crosshair. If you have dynamic input disabled, you won't see this. It can be toggled with Command-Shift-D (or the icon in the status bar).

- In Inquiry Result 2.png, it displays the result over several lines. If the history is not showing, you will only see the last line, meaning you can't see multiple results easily. If you click the arrow on the right side of the command line, it will display the history until it is closed (expand this before you measure distances).

EDIT: Hang on, I swear there wasn't this many replies when I was typing this... Kind of makes my post redundant lol

The same thing is happening to me. I am using AutoCAD for Mac 2022 and AutoCAD Ursa.

Hi @jjid1 ,

This topic is rather old and your words "The same thing is happening to me" does not fully explain your problem.

Please elaborate.
