Hi,

 

From your description it works as it should.

Look at the screenshots:

 

1/ You call MEASUREGEOM command and select Distance

2/ You pick two points and get the result near crosshairs (if you have Dynamic Input ON) and at the command prompt (you need to expand it with small button with arrow on the right side of the Command window:

3/ If you need to measure multiple distances and get a sum of them, you can use Multiple option after you pick the first point:

4/ Than after you pick the last point and hit Return you will get total distance:
