AutoCAD for Mac and AutoCAD Architecture

Struggling with the fact that AutoCAD was nice enough to produce to versions for Mac based users; both the full version of AutoCAD and LT. These essentially work great and are much appreciated. When it comes to other versions in use in the industry, things get really frustrating. Fast. Its particularly frustrating because Mac's dominate the graphic, audio, and video production industries worldwide. If it involves creativity its been dominated by Mac users. There are good reasons for it as well.

My dilemma is this; I need to work with clients who use AutoCAD Architecture. I only need to be able to edit their drawings (basic AEC objects) without exploding/destroying them forever. And I don't want to have to spend $1000 or more to buy windows, setup a partition, buy Parallels, and get back into that whole windows OS mess in general. Not to mention that I need Revit for the same type of thing, but have no Mac based options.

I've looked everywhere on the Autodesk website, and I can't find anything that tells me if Autocad can edit AEC objects created by Architecture. I know you need Archtiecture to create those AEC objects. But, that's not what I need to do. Just a simple page saying "NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT" would be awesome.

Does anyone know to what extent AEC objects can be edited in regular Autocad 2015? Are there object enablers available (can't find info on that either)? Just a simple list of things you can and can't do would be wonderful. People have to collaborate, and this is important info.

Thanks.  Emoticono feliz

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

Unfortunately you cannot edit AEC objects created in AutoCAD Architecture in AutoCAD for Mac and there is no AEC object enabler for AutoCAD for Mac.

How about regular AutoCAD (non-Mac)? Are there Object Enablers available for it?  Was not able to find a clear answer.

Hey thanks! I've searched for hours and was never able to find that. One more question, is there an explanation anywhere of exactly what the object enablers allow to be done to AEC objects in AutoCAD?

Has this changed in subsequent releases? How do architects use AutodCAD with AEC obects?

Architects use this Windows-only variant of AutoCAD http://www.autodesk.com/adt or are in the process of switching to REVIT (also only for Windows).
