SMM is surface meters per minute and is calculated based on the outside diameter of the tool,
The rpm required for drilling is based on the SMM for the type of material and the type of drill so for example drilling stainless steel with a HSS drill is 15 SMM regardless of the diameter of drill.
since featurecam turn/mill doesn’t have the option to choose SMM instead of RPM in the drilling tab I have to manually calculate the RPM for every drill I use.(RPM = SMM /Pi x Diameter).
I know off hand the SMM for every type of material and since theres only 2 types of drill (HSS or carbide) its very easy to rember ….
i cant remember the RPM for every size of drill and every type of material with that type of drill and it’s a waste of my time to pull out a calculator every time I need to program a drilling feature on a turn/mill project.
ALSO on a plain milling job featurecam DOES have the option to choose SMM or RPM on the drilling tab so it SHOULD be available on turn mill projects too.
and choosing SMM on a milling project and entering a setting featurecam calculates the RPM so if I switch to RPM it then displays the calculated RPM,
On a turn/mill project the drilling tab only has SMM option for spot drill and entering a setting for SMM does not calculate the RPM,and the drill does NOT have SMM option at all.
So to summarise by not having SMM as an option instead of RPM I and every other user that does a turning or turn /mill project has to have a calculator handy to calculate by hand the correct RPM for drilling.
While every user that does a milling project does NOT have to use a calculator because the option is already included In drilling tabs and featurecam calculates the RPM based on the input SMM.
Is this likely to get fixed ?
because it has been an issue in every version of featurecam as is still like this in 2020 version.
Seems to me that featurecam milling gets all the care and fixes but turning and turn mill doesnt?
