Good afternoon,
I wanted to see if anyone had a clever way of doing what Mastercam would refer to as dynamic milling for facing. They have an excellent toolpath which starts at the outside of the stock and spirals in. Saves a lot of time and is great on the tools. I use spiral surface milling for this at times, but there is no way to control the tool radius that I am aware of. What you get is a lot of sharp corners. If you do high feed and light step overs on a Hardinge mill like I am using, you get a bunch of jerky movements. Definitely not good for the tool. I have attached a picture to show what I get, The arcs on the outside are what would be preferred, but as you see it turns to sharp corners as you get closer to the center. The milling tab has a toolpath corner % option, but if you go into help it says it is only for Z level surface milling. Would be great to have this option for spiral. I'd appreciate suggestions. Thanks.
