Thanks for asking the query through Autodesk Forum.
At the moment, FeatureCAM 2017 R1 SP3 supports SolidWorks 2016 but soon it will support SolidWorks 2017 in its upcoming release.

Well it's 2017!!! Where the I-Iell is it? We upgraded to Solidworks 2017 and Now our FeatureCam can't be used!!!!!! We're dead in the water.
We're paying a stupid amount of money for upgrades and maintenance and now the software won't even work! If you let FC update a model that happens to have been saved in SW2017, nothing visually happens ,but after that you can not save the FM file and al your work is lost. You can't even save the .FM file under a different name. All your prior work is lost.
Given the fact that SW2017 has been out since Nov 1st 2016! WTF boys?

you should be able to output an X_T model to use till the the update is available.
this will prevent you from being DIW till the software has been updated.
i know there is a service pack being worked on but i do not know the timeline for release.

I should be getting what I paid for!!!!! I just got off the phone with a Rep. , he said the same sorry a$$ crap!
I told him that AutoD just created the prefect virus in FC. You open an .FM file, you than get asked if you want to import an updated version of the model your working on. And if you hit yes, and the new file comes from SW2017. You just lost all your work in that file. From that point on, you can not save the FM file. You can even reboot the PC, open it , and still can't save the FM file. You have to start the whole job from scratch wasting hours and hours. "The Prefect Virus" destroying valuable files.

i agree with you that your should get what you pay for.
i was not trying to say otherwise.
i was only trying to help you by suggesting using another file format that would work for you.
such as X_T or STP to prevent this from happening on the next project you work on.
We have escalated your concerns to the proper channels to see if we can expedite this for you.
if you have any other questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
if you still have the file please send it to me and i will see if we can recover any of it.
i cant make any promises but i do not want to overlook any avenue that would help your situation.

I thank you for putting up with my ranting.
The only thing that I forgot to mention is that;
Autodesk should put out a "Public Service Announcement" and warn all their customers about this damaging and costly problem with FeatureCam software. So as they do not have to go through this costly problem as I am.

So it is now March of 2017 and is there still not a solution for importing solidworks2017 solids? My problem is that I get solids from my customer, and now my "up to date" software won't import a solidworks2017 solid. Is there a solution coming anytime soon?

That may be, but that version is not even in the download area. I have a current maintenance plan, and I have not received a notice for updates in a while. I looked this morning, and the latest one available has been out since may 2016

yes, you will need to install Featurecam 2017 in order to process the update.

log into Autodesk knowledge network and then go to accounts.autodesk.com.
once there select the management option on the profile page. search for the software and download from there.
once downloaded install and then update to SP5.
