Featurecam 2018 - corrupted UI?!
This keeps happening...
I deleted the temp files
deleted the ini
ran in admin
created new document
made the toolbars
set the settings
saved the settings
save the new file (for some reason)
closed featurecam
reopened featurecam
opening in admin or not, as soon as I start a document in featurecam, this happens
btw...
I forced myself to use the Ribbon for 2 weeks, I ended up losing my custom tabs 2 times.
So... I tried to use the Default tabs....that was a mistake
It is entirely unrealistic to use Cam software efficiently with the 10,000 extra clicks it takes to use those default tabs and menus.
That being said, I need help with this one, single, specific issue.
I have recreated this problem, several times, trying to use the toolbars in Featurecam 2018
the INI file is attached, and so is the new document that I saved after making the toolbars and settings

I solved all my toolbar issues by going back to FC 2017. It has worked flawlessly ever since....I tried the ribbon too, but found the 3-4 times the number of required clicks vs the old toolbars unacceptable. Eventulaly someone told be about the "secret" way to get the toolbars back, but even with the old toolbars I had issues (the latest update removed the "print preview" option in the old toolbars, though it still works in the ribbon, ust one among several issues)
I agonized about doing it (going back to 2017) for a while, I was worried I would have issues going back to an older version with the files I made/modified in FC 2018, but even though I do get a popup warning, they still work perfectly.....
Sad to say I dont think autodesk cares about problems with the "old style" toolbars, they are all about the ribbon. My theory is that have stock in the company that makes mouse buttons....

Hi,
I thing there are something there are hanging in your configuration files. I can switch between Ribbon & Icons bars, see video.
I would try to take a backup of the the files there are located in the C:\ProgramData\FeatureCAM.
1. Close all featureCAM app.
2. Create a new folder put all the files in there
3. Then restart FC as admin, and setting all things up again.
4. Remember to "Save now"
5. Save the fm-file on the desktop
6. Close FeatureCAM
7. Open normally
Thank you,
Jacob

We have this issue too here in our company.
This happens only on first startup of FC and on the first project opened.
When opening a second project the buttons disapear.

The latest news I can give is from an email I received from Autodesk.
It stated that, when they looked at my .ini (directly after customizing it with toolbars using those exact steps listed) they were, in fact, able to find the errors I have been describing for a few months now.
So, as of right now, the problem is with the development team. I haven't heard anything back about the problem being solved. I have only received an email about renewing the maintenance contract, which is a concerning purchase in my opinion, due to the lack of maintenance to a specific problem last year..
Not trying to bad mouth you guys. These are just the facts. I have emails trailing months back about a single specific UI issue I need repaired. The push for users to implement the ribbon is so strong, that the underlying issue (many of us are experiencing) was looked over, avoided, and still yet to be resolved as far as I know.
I love Featurecam, with toolbars. It is quick, easy to use, and simplistic. It is a UI option they provided, but seemed unwilling to repair.
The cost effectiveness between the ribbon UI, and the toolbar UI for power users is, a no brainer. If you use the Ribbon, workload increases, and productivity decreases. It takes the most basic math to understand that. With that, I digress.
Fyi, I am out of work receiving chemotherapy. I have been out for almost 2 months due to recent health issues. I should be back to work in the next month or 2.

We have been having similar issues. I noticed that I could never have the pop up windows stay in the same spot on open a new session of FeatureCam. It seems that on initial opening the windows are way at the bottom of the monitor.
I have (2) 32" monitors
I also have a tremendous amount of flickering within Featurecam. I have extensively been in contact with Featurecam on this. It didnt do it at all in 2017. They said, maybe my drivers are outdated or my monitor cable is loose. ( I am up to date and cable is display port plug and is pushed all the way in) Also, this is a Featurecam issue. There is no issue with Mastercam or Solidworks, or anything else.
So yesterday I decided to add a 3rd monitor.
Computer was on and running but NO software programs were open, including Featurecam. I plugged in and turned on the 3rd monitor. Once I did, 2 windows that I had used in the previous session of Featurecam appeared on the screen. They were a feature window of a feature I had edited. All of the info was there and I could actually edit it, like it was still live. I could move the boxes around the screen. Also the interrogate box was there with the last results of what I had measured. I pressed the X in the upper right and closed them. Also the CodeMeter program showed it was open in the lower taskbar.
That seemed weird to me! Also, there has been times that when I hover over FeatureCam in the windows taskbar, an image is shown of window boxes that are no longer open. It is like when you close window boxes, they remain open.

I have the same flickering issue with featurecam 2018 and was told at first that it was my drivers etc.
When I did a conference call with one of the autodesk guys and showed him how my screen was flicker's and sent him my file, he was able to recreate it on his computer it was then raised to a higher support status and I have heard nothing since.

I am back to work now.
Our IT guy put windows 10 on this computer while I was out.
so... Either an update was released for featurecam to fix the corrupted ui, or, using windows 10 made a difference.
I still have several issues with the software, such as crashing, running my setup notes macro.... lol
but.. this particular (visual problem) has finally gone away.

I'm staying with 2017; I paid for 2018 but will not buy 2019 - I won't buy a downgrade.
The changes were made to:
- "create a clear visual layout"
- Failed
- "and provide consistency with other Autodesk products"
- That ads no value to me, but helps them copy/paste their code between the many versions of their software.
I know it's too late and I'm beating a dead horse. I'll shop for another Feature based CAM software.
