From model to real body... The differences

Hello,

i have finished the milling of my guitar body without offset (maybe 0.1 or 0.2) between front and back sides. But there are some surprises i don't understand.

First the filet on the outside contour are not well done, one the front side it's not awful but it's not a filet.

And there is a notch on the neck joint and a reverse filet that should not be there.

My file https://a360.co/3nKYFfA

A shot of the notch on fusion

And some pictures

The biggest problem is the notch and reverse filet on the neck joint? Why?

Thank you for spending time for me...

it is not clear what you are asking.  It sounds like the model did not turn out the same as in the simulation.  Try a gcode simulator like hsmsimul to see if the gcode is the problem.

The notch in the neck joint is in the simulation, you can see it on the screen shot. But i don't understand why. I was focused on the offset face/back.

It is not in the model.

For the filets, i don't see the issue in the simulation...

And about simulations of 3D operations, they make almost always crash fusion on my computer...It's new but true...

In regards to crashing your computer, do you have the latest video drivers for you graphics card?

I don't know actually. It's an old macbook pro with 16GB. Where can i see that?

Hi,

First of all, I think the problem with the notch is simply because of your contour selection that uses the inside curve of the undercut so it cuts all of that material that should not.  As far as the radius you are talking about, those seems like your ballnose either started too deep or your top facing toolpath left too much material.  Could simply be a matter of wrong tool offset on the machine.  I also noticed your are only machining about half of the radius all around the model which explains why you also see a concave radius at the bottom of your fillet.  Your toolpath is not going deep enough.  You should try adding an additional Offset to your boundary.  I like to add the tool radius - Tolerance so in your case, 2.9mm should do the trick.  Joining the file I played with in case you want to take a look.

Hope this helps!

How can you select this contour? You must use 2 contours no? It's one of the thing i find annoying in fusion is "how to select this contour exactly". So what's your trick? I must have the same issue for the neck joint selection, where i have a reverse filet i should not have. Thanks for your help...

So modify the contour that is automatically selected, just click again the contour and you’ll be able to select more edges to modify the default chain.

Great, i did it. But there is a warning so no tool path. I don't really understand, it's because the filet is too small for the tool?

And for the outside filet, you choosed only the lowest contour, but a little part of the upper contour? Why?

I did not see other differences...

Thanks

@eric.thepaut3 This should help I show how to do it on the 2 bad contours.

Also what is here will help.

Hi Daniel, first thanks for your help. Now i can select the contour i want, at least so far.

Today i redrew my guitar with more simple operations. The design has been quite easy. And i flipped to manufacture to do a 3D pocket cleaning with a short contour, exactly what i want. And when i click ok, i have that silly warning : "empty tool path" with no help at all. I did a scallop with the same contour, but the tool path stay on the model top plane. Last time it was a problem with the set up, but now i don't see. Set up seems ok. Here is my file : https://a360.co/2UPULpE

Thank you Mikael, i think i got it now.

@seth.madore Can you have a look at the contour toolpath in the first setup, I had one the same last week where it was jumping all over the show like this one.

@eric.thepaut3 Deselect and reselect the guitar body again.
