Few questions about the milling tool and CAM
Hi guys,
Same procedure as every year, one week before Christmas I want to stress myself out and make a prototype using a CNC machine and I am lacking some info. Hope you could help out!
- If the cutting diameter equals the shank diameter, is it possible and sensible to 2D cut (over multiple steps) through wood that is thicker than the actual flute/cutting length?
- If I want to mill a simple 2D form – how does the diameter of the cutting tool effect the total milling time? Does bigger diameter mean less time needed to do the job?
- The material I want to use for the prototype is poplar plywood. The end product shall be made out of solid oak wood. In the internet I read, that for both materials I should use a one-tooth milling tool. Any thoughts?
- Is there a fusion 360 plugin, that does the arrangement of all the parts in preparation for milling in an automated and efficient way (to minimize unused area)?
Thank you for your help ![]()
