Hi All,
I ran the attached test program this AM using a contour profile. It left a center ridge at the bottom of the half moon cutout.
I am using a 1/2" diameter bull nose bit.
Any suggestions on what I need to change in settings or what I am doing wrong?
Thanks
Kevin

Turn on Machine Shallow Areas on the Passes tab, but honestly I'd probably use Parallel for this feature.
Honestly 3D Contour is really meant for steep wall surface finishing, like mold cavities with a draft angle and doesn't do well with shallow geometry.

Two thoughts I had: 1. Reduce maximum step down to appropriate value. 2. Add a second tool path operation parallel .

I tried the parallel and it worked much better, is there a way to tell the toolpath not to do the top flat surface and just do the half moon area. I'm just looking to save machining time there is all.
Thanks

Lars has a great video you should check out. I recommend watching the whole video but he does have a very similar part about 1/2 through and goes through containment.
