Cutting Strategies

Hello everyone,

I am new fairly new to cam. I have a CNC Router (home-built) and will be using 1/4" bits.  I am looking what  would be the best way to cut this model out.  The stock is pine at  x @ 400mm,  y@ 240mm and z@32mm.

Any opinions?

Did you know you can share the actual Fusion file?

File > Export > Save to local folder. Return to thread and attach the .f3d file

What is the spindle rating and max feedrate of your machine? This changes our answer greatly

I am using a max feed rate of 500mm/min.  The router is a dewalt 611 and I think the slowest speed is 16000 rpm.  I should know what the speed is.

Material? Stock size? Unlimited tooling selections?

Ah, so it was.

Do you have any means of tipping the part up at an angle to machine that odd contour?

I do not.  The machine just has a basic spoiler board base.

What sort of fillet in the corner and incomplete cleanup are you willing to
live with? That feature is not going to be completely reached in a 3 axis
approach..
A 1/4" ball endmill CAN scallop or Morph Spiral out a good portion of the
pocket, but you are going to end up with a large fillet in the bottom.
Acceptable?

What's the Z travel on your machine? It might be possible to machine a
wedge to bolt this part to so you can do that pocket properly

A large fillet in the bottom would be acceptable.   I don't see a way around it accept what you propose and it is not that important to have the inside corners squared.  I have a Z height clearance of  of 65mm.

I would suggest using a 3D Adaptive to clear out the bulk of the material (using a flat or bull endmill). After that, a Scallop toolpath with a .250 ball endmill will do the trick for inside the pocket, as well as that large fillet all around the part
