selecting a tool

I am trying to set up the 2D Face mill step tgo mill the faces of the workpiece.  I was planning to use a .5 inch dia., 2 inch long 4 flute flat endmill.  But when I select tool and try to give these dimensions to an endmill, everything behaves correctly, but the tool shows up after OK as #1 - O0.2031" flat.  What am I doing wrong.

Can you export the file as an .f3d and post it here or email it to cam.support@autodesk.com?  I'm not getting the same thing on my part.

I have tried it and do see a strange looking tool but once I set it as you said it stays. I have tried it on 2 pcs and a MAC. Has this happened again?

What do you mean "strange looking tool"?  I just get a hang.  Repeatedly.

the cutting diameter is smaller than the shank diameter and an odd decimal number.

I am trying to select a 1/2" diameter flat end mill, and when I do, I get an error: "Error: Internal CAM kernel error. Please report through your support channel."

How do I change these?  I see a tool library, but nothing in it matches my 1/4" shank, 1/2" diameter, 2" long, 4 flute end mill.

att's odd because I am using tools from your libraries.  See attached screen failining with "no toolpath" complaints.  What am I doing wrong?

The first problem I see is that you don’t have a model select in your setup. The next is that your geometry is showing something select but I don’t see it on the part. Could the edges you selected have been removed from the part?   

 

Once I selected the model and new geometry the Adaptive operation generated.

Thank you.  I was able to generate gCode.  I am now on to my next problem.  The Sherline post processor produces gCode that specified a tool not inh the EMC library, so I added it, and yet the simulator refuses to run ith it.  On the LinuxCNC forum, another user said that I should use the generic EMC postprocessor.  When I tried that I received the attached error log.

Post processing failed.

This is normally cause by not working on the setup XY plane and using a non-rotary post processer. Do you have an operation that is using Tool Orientation?

Not  to my knowledge am I using a Tool Orientation.  Where would this be appearing?

 

What is a non-rotary postprocessor?

When I run simulate, I see my end mill coming in from the side on one face, where all the other mills are coming from Z.

22 Jul 2015 00:24, he seems to have identified the cause of the hang.
