I'm trying to get my facing pattern where the overlap is in the center of the Y. This part will be cut in half and I was trying to get the patterns even on each half. Face Mill is 2.5" and the Parts is 2.8" in the Y dimension.
The first pass is fine, but the second pass is overlapping way too much. I tried to have some lines for it to follow but it doesn't work as expected.
Can I do this with a facing operation or would it be easier in a 2D profile tool path?

2D contour, select 2 single line segments and use -stock to leave to get the overlap how you like.

I ended up doing that but I had to create 2 2d contours operations and select a single line for each op.
I hate to say it, but even the most basic cam programs will let you select a 2d path OnCenter, Outside, Inside, and direction. I found how to do tangental, and direction but how do you draw a line and tell the tool path to stay on the center of that line?

Hi
For 2d Contour you can set the compensation to "off"
Alternatively you can use the Trace toolpath which is set to center by default
