Parallel is set to 2mm depths but plunges 8-10 mm on first pass. How can I correct this?

On the attached file, the first Parallel operation is plunging the first pass way too deep. I have it set at 2mm multiple depths. The simulation shows it makes 2 passes. No matter what I set the pass depth to be, it sets the number of passes to 2. When I start to mill the model (using styrofome as a test stock)it plunges to 8-10 mm to mill the first pass. The second pass is milled at the correct 2mm depth.

 

How do I set this up so that is mills no more than 2mm depths for each pass?

NEVER MIND! I found it. Set number of step-downs to 8. Sorry to bother you.

I'm having this same problem. So you increase the step downs, doesn't that make tool paths above the stock height?

yes, it will. Either trim with with the Modify command or rough it out with a better strategy.

I found that after setting the return to zero position, my Z axis would advance beyond the zero-position reference point when using return to zero. I found this answer, make $1=255. This worked very well. It leaves the stepper motor drivers on for the maximum allowed time after the step pulse ends. In other words, it fixes the stepper rotor locked to the specified rotation.
