2d adaptive open pocket problem since last 360 update.

Hi All,

Hopefully someone can help me out here,

I had been using 2d adaptive to clear multiple recessed areas in the attached design simply by selecting the faces which worked perfectly. Since updating, I am getting an error "Unsupported Geometry for 2d open pocket detection" and I can't find any other way to achieve the clearing operation using either 2d or 3d as both now need require contours to be set which leaves unwanted stock where the tool would stray outside the set area.

I'm using a 1/4" mill.

(I'm reporting this using an export from an earlier version of 360 to get around the problem

(2.0.10356) but anyone with Fusion 360 CAM 2.0.10440 should be able to reproduce the issue.)

Looking forward to hearing back.

Using a tool containment of tool center on boundary with an additional offset of 3mm seems to work quite well for a 3D pocket example attached, I would not have a clue why 2D is failing.

@Anonymous

Defintely different !!

2D strategies appear to be only for "Closed" pockets and 3D Strategies for "Open" pockets now.

Yes, now a PITN having to set boundaries but it does seem to work OK that way, see attached file

Might be something we are missing though, hopefully someone will put us right :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face:

@Anonymous you DO have a file that did work? Can you open that, protect the toolpath and export that file so I have a side-by-side comparison?

To protect a toolpath: Right click on it, select the Protect option

Hi Seth,

This was a 2d adaptive clearing tool path I created successfully a few days ago before the update.

I had since edited the setup so it's displaying as an error but it honestly was working.

If you go back into the toolpath and try and confirm the same setting it will fail with the error message I originally posted.

The 3d options the other two have suggested will work but it's making a simple operation a lot more complex than it needs to be.

Thanks,

Nick

If you go to the Data Panel, locate the file (locate a revision that predates 7/7/21) and right click in the following sequence:

Take that old file and export and share that.
