Optimal load must be less than groove radius - but it is

I am turning a 19mm groove into a part using the adaptive turning operation. i have used this hundreds of times with no issue. since the last update i am encountered with two problems.

firstly i can no longer use a grooving tool with this operation as i get the error tool is not suitable for this kind of tool path you likely need to change your tool ( i have been using the exact tool i am trying to use on the same file for over a year now)

secondly i tried to define my tool as a button tool which it tecnically is but i have always got by defining it as a grooving tool and once doing this i get the error optimal load must be less than groove radius but my optimal load is set to 0.5mm and the radius of the groove is 19mm.

this is stopping me making lots of parts which is very frustratying as i cannot see where i am going wrong and i have been doing this the same way for nearly two years. i have opened files i have previously worked on and tried to regenerate them but i am getting the same problem once the toolpath is regenerated even though it was a complete and correct toolpath before generation.

@Anonymous Unfortunately I cannot tell you exactly when the update will be released (due to corporate policy) but it should be around the final week of april.

@maskinverksted @Sq_14 I'm fairly certain that this issue that was raised by the OP has been fixed. If you're still seeing issues, I encourage you to create a new thread and provide as much info as possible; Fusion file, description of problem and information regarding the machine and post processor

Thanks for the suggestion, for me it's a blatant error in F360.

If i open up a new adaptive roughing operation within a existing setup, the whole settings are kinda empty, It should at least invoke a previous used tool to start with and several other things, but the tool selection field is empty.

I'll start a new thread ...

Its now April of 2023 and this issue still exists in Fusion. Currently trying to do an adaptive turn with a .250 button insert and it claims that .015 optimal load is greater than my groove radius of .5. Please explain how to fix this issue.

@seth.madoreI can attach the file and tool that I am attempting to turn if you would like

@garrett953WT please share your Fusion file here, not the .SLDPRT

File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d file in your reply

I do now  :slightly_smiling_face:

Your issue is that you're using an OD turning tool. Currently, Adaptive Turning is only able to use Grooving tools. So, define a round Grooving tool and go to town on it:

Shouldn't it be possible to do this with any OD turning tool with adequate geometry?

No, it's only programmed to accept grooving tools. I see how it's confusing that one is supported and the other is not, especially when they are both defined to be identical (in the case of button inserts on a neutral tool). I'm checking with the dev's to better understand the design choices that were made.
