A couple simple solutions (without changing tool orientation!):
- Contour profile finishing pass with very small step-down (ball end preferably)
- Change the pass angle by 90 degrees, essentially making short vertical passes instead of long contours (more accommodating of a flat end bit, ball end still preferable)
A large ball end is your friend when finishing large curved surfaces. The larger the radius the better: the bigger the circle, the less curved the contact point will be, requiring fewer passes to accomplish desired resolution.
This is the same effect you get when running a flat end orthogonal to the contour (since edge profile becomes more circular).
