Does all couplings have same Custom ID (CID) in cadMEP Fabrication?

I'm trying to make a automation regarding "couplings" in fabrication objects (in Revit).

Where I need to get all the couplings available in current project, but I could not find any particular property or method that can confirm its a coupling.

After a lot of manual work I found that in all of my local available fabrication databases every duct coupling's CID no is 522 and for pipe coupling its 2522.

Is that something from which I can be sure that particular item is a coupling?

That will get you close but there's no guarantee it's a coupling.  What is a coupling? Is an adaptor a coupling? How about a reducing coupling? Or reducing adaptor?

This is where ServiceTypes come in handy but most don't build out their list of ServiceTypes intentionally, they just add a few and leave what's default. I typically make all my own servicetypes and "Coupling" is one of them so it's easy to identify.

Hey @dyoung,

Thanks for clarifying in the first part, But the second part I could not understand as I know "service type" only gives information as below. Could you please re-elaborate on that point?

  • Step 1. Within the Service type, you can create custom types. i.e. Coupling.
  • Step 2. Edit the ITM > Select the TAB names "Item" Set the "Service Type" to Coupling.

Craigjohnson, but there is no ITM under Service type in the image above. Where is the ITM?
