GruvLok Couplings on Design Line

My company uses the product GruvLok at lot so I am setting up a new Grooved Service. I made a copy of an existing Service template, then made a new tab to add the buttons I would be using for my new service. When using the Design Line everything works except the couplings need at every joint. I'm sure it is a button mapping or button coding issue. How do I get the Rigid couplings to show up?

Hello @dglus ,

Are the couplings created with one of the following patterns:

  • 522
  • 1522
  • 2522

If so, you should be able to set this up based on connectivity. The pipes should be unable to connect to each other. When they are unable to connect, the button palette is searched for one of the above patterns to insert between them which will make the connection. If you set up a coupling that can connect properly between two pipes when the pipes themselves are unable to connect to each other, it will automatically be inserted.

If you want to upload the service for us to take a look exactly at what is happening, that would help as well.

The connector I am trying to us has CID of 2522, which is a standard coupling. When using the design line the pipes connect without the coupling. When I click on each piece of pipe they list the "C1" and "C2" as none. However, all my fittings have "C1" and "C2" listed as "ANV_Grooved". Do these have to be the same? Also, I am not sure what you mean by uploading the service?

Hello @dglus ,

If the two pipes connect without issue, then no coupling will be used. Both connectors on the pipes need to be set in a way they cannot connect to each other without a coupling coming in.

For example, both pipes are set to a connector that has a 'male' connection. They cannot connect to each other as they are both male. When this happens, if the coupling ahs the same connectivity and is set to 'female' on both sides, it will be looked for and inserted between the two items because it is created with CID 2522.

To share the service, you can use EXPORTSYS to export a copy of what you have set up so far in the service (Importing / Exporting Services | Fabrication Products | Autodesk Knowledge Network). You can then upload the IEZ file created, and I will be able to import it, see how everything is set up, and tell you exactly what needs adjusting.

Hello @mariah.ferranti

I went in to my SCH40 Black Pipe (CID 2041) button properties and locked the "C1" and "C2" on "ANV_Grooved" it seems to be working now. I also excluded the Welded tab from fill to make sure it only uses the Anvil tab. I used the EXPORTSYS command to export my service. I could not upload a IEZ file, so i uploaded a ZIP. I hope it works. Thank you so much for your help and quick response.

Hello @dglus ,

Thank you for sharing that service! I was able to import it and take a look. I can see the connectors locked now, and placing two pipes using the attacher will place the coupling between them. And Design Line seems to do this properly as well. Have you been able to place a couple of these and see the proper behavior?
