The easiest way to get the design line correctly located is to place a temporary line at the fitting node before you switch to design line and start another service. 

If your original design line is sloped and you start a new design line, be sure the endpoint of the new design line  remains at the fitting after you apply slope or use drawn polylines with slope which you then segment to reflect the different services prior to applying the design line Trace option.
