How to Determine Part Symmetry

Hi Reader,

We would like to know if there is a "smart" way to determine if a Part is symmetrical?

My first thought was to use the Center of Gravity and Check if 2 axis are zero and then maybe check the RangeBox of the solid etc. if that makes any sense at all. As we are only interested in Sheetmetal Part with a Flat Pattern, this could also be utilized for initial checks.

For Info:

We have some validation to check if material with foil side is used. A special sketched symbol with a leader is used on the drawing document to help the bender to determine the bend direction to make sure the sides are as intended. We managed to also validate if the attached geometry is actually the defined A Side or BaseFace of the Flat Pattern.

Now there will be a lot of "false" positives in the case the Part is symmetrical and therefor the side does not really matter. Therefor I would like to know if there is a simple way to determine if a Part is Symmetrical or not.

Kind Regards,

Anne Kempenaar
