zoom extents control

How do I control zoom extents.  The zoom goes way out and the model becomes almost a dot on the screen.

Hi @mbynoe,

It sounds like you've got geometry in your model that is very far from the geometry you're intending to be the "extent" of the model.

After running Zoom Extents, it might be worth trying to:

  • Select all with Ctrl + A
  • Hold Shift and drag a window around the geometry you know about, to deselect it (the "dot" you describe)
  • The remaining geometry is very far from your "known" geometry.
    • With this selected, you can use the ZS shortcut to Zoom Selected to find out what it is
    • You can decide to delete this geometry or move it closer to your intended model

Zoom Extents is designed to zoom to the extents of your model, so there's no control here other than making sure your geometry is where you intend it to be. In your case, the extents are much larger than you'd expect, so you'll need to track down the problematic geometry and either move it closer to the rest of the model, or delete it entirely so Zoom Extents doesn't have to zoom so far out to capture everything.

Let us know if you continue having issues and we can take a look at the model for a deeper investigation.
