Hide lines in FormIt

Hi, I have been using FormIt for a couple of days now, as an alternative to SketchUp, but I am struggling to find some of the tools (or alternatives of) that I am used to and I was hoping that maybe someone here would be able to help.

Is there any way to hide lines/edges on the solids in FormIt?

@Anonymous,

There is a specific context sensitive menu tool to change the visibility of lines. The help item is available on this link:

In order the change it, select only the line or Ctrl-Select several lines (without selecting other types of elements suchas faces, groups, etc) and Right-Click to bring up the context menu. Choose the tool with a "split face" and the solid line or edge will become a hidden edge. See the screencast example below.

To reverse the process, you can reset an entire surfaces hidden line (See screencast end) or when the face is selected, select only the dashed "hidden" line and repeat the Right-Click for the context sensitive menu. I don't think there is a selective hidden line to visible line option.

You can also globally disable all solid edges on the Edges tab of the visual styles toolbar. Simple line work will remain visible.

Good luck.

Luc

P.S. Screencast updated! 🙂

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for trying FormIt!

@lucdoucet_msdl beat me to the punch! The only thing I'll add to his helpful info is that you can use shortcut "SE" to Smooth Edges, once you've got them selected.

Once the edge is smoothed, you can right-click the surface and use the "Facet Smooth Faces" option, or another way of looking at this is "Unsmooth Edges" with shortcut UE:

Hope this helps!
