Help? How can I make Formit use the available system resources?

I have a very large fbx-file with three very large 3d-meshes of a part of a city. I need to make a hole in the mesh so I can place my Infraworks 2021 site plan into it. Formit 2022 wants me to first transform teh meshes into objects. It is taking forever. My problem is Formit is utilizing only about 6.5 percent of my AMD Ryzen 7 2700 x CPU's computing power, only about 1.5 Gt of available 32 Gt of memory and no GPU. How can I make Formit use my resources better and work faster?

I've also tried using 3ds max 2021 but it won't bring in the fbx-file's textures. I've then opened the files in Navisworks manage 2021 and exported them from there in fbx-format. Now 3ds opens them and the textures but it constantly complains about the textures being in autodesk default format. When I export the 3ds-model from 3ds in fbx- or dae-format and having used the embed media option the textures don't show in Infraworks or Navisworks. Please help. I'm going crazy here.

In my understanding, the graphics card ressources aren't being used when editing geometry in either FormIt or 3dSMax. Also, it's my understanding that most 3d modeling operations don't take advantage of multi-core processors, so you are left with the memory and overall processor speed. Unfortunately, I don't have any knowledge of FormIt memory usage and the processor speed is fixed.

Even though FormIt has evolved to work better with large meshes, I would expect you to have better results in 3dsMax than in FormIt. I would therefore encourage you to resolve the solution there.

I've also tried using 3ds max 2021 but it won't bring in the fbx-file's textures.

In 3ds Max, try setting "StandardMtlFBXImport=1" in the following location: C:\Users\$USER NAME$\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2021 - 64bit\ENU\3dsMax.ini. This will prevent the import process from converting the standard materials to physically based materials.

If you can tell us more about what software produced the original FBX file and what software you are ending up using the final assembled FBX and Infraworks in, I can suggest a better workflow.

Hope this helps,
