FormIT 360 for Windows Performance

Hi,

I have been using FormIT 360 for Windows for a short while - but I have questions about the performance.

This is specifically using FormIT 360 for Windows, not the Web version.

There seems to be similar performance issues to the Web version like:

Delays of up to 3 seconds after choosing to either sketch or use for the example the Patch tool.

Also, I am getting what I can only describe as a picture in a picture when attempting to orbit. When this happens I end up minimising the FormIT window, swapping to another application, then back. After returning to the FormIT window, the screen has updated.

I am only working with a few objects and with little visual styles on. I would not consider using FormIT on any scale based on this current performance.

I'm interested to hear about others experience.

Hi Gary, thanks for reaching out.

You are getting 3-second delays on our Windows app with very few elements drawn? This seems strange and we'd want to look into it. For reference, the "Cover" operation I think you're referring to may have delays as it processes the selected geometry and determines an appropriate solution. Using the sketch tools however should have no such delay.

Please provide the following:

- Operating system

- Computer model and graphics card

- Multi-monitor setup?

As for the "picture in picture" effect, can you reply with a screenshot or video, and clarify any steps to get to this state - any particular tool you used that preceded the issue? Reproducible steps?

Hi Josh,

Attached is an image showing the 'picture in picture' artifact. This occurs after I choose a tool, for example the Cover tool, then as I attempt to orbit, I get the PIP you can see here:

FormIT360PIP.jpg

This will take a number of seconds to refresh. As I continue to orbit, only the small window updates. In some cases I will minimise the FormIT window and after returning, the FormIT window has refreshed.

Laptop specifications are:

OS = Win 7 Pro 64-bit

Graphics Card = NVIDIA Quadro K3000M

Regards

Gary Page.

Thanks for verifying, Gary.

We are aware of the problem seen in your screenshot on certain Windows 7 machines. It will be fixed with our upcoming v14 release.

Can you provide more info on the 3-second delay you were experiencing? Is that with a specific tool, or in a specific model? With a K3000M there's no doubt you should be seeing snappy performance.

Apart from the Window in Window issue, a three second delay happens after picking Cover. In some cases I can wait up to 5 - 6 seconds, then I can pick edges.

Hi,
Any ETA on v14 release ?
The performance running on Win 7 for me, is not good. These are small models.
Thanks.

Hi Gary - I followed up with you offline to see about sharing your files for performance profiling!

The short answer is we're targeting mid May for our next release (v14), Thanks, Tobias

Hi Tobias,

Thanks for your reply. I'm only working on small models at this stage - I wouldn't begin working with more complex models at this stage. I'll wait for v14.

Gary Page.
